Week 12: JFK Assassination and the TV-show "11.22.63."

"Shortly after noon on November 22, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated as he rode in a motorcade through Dealey Plaza in downtown Dallas, Texas." The assassination of JFK was one of the most important events that occurred in the USA. I didn't know who JFK is until I watch a show called "11.22.63." This show is based on the Assassination of JFK. However, there is a big twist, JFK has been assassinated but the tv show saved JFK from getting assassinated at the same exact date, which is November 22nd, 1963. Also, the show gives a nice view of the 60s and other related histories to that day.

Week 11: Cold War in America

Cold War, the open yet restricted rivalry that developed after World War II between the United States and the Soviet Union and their respective allies. The Cold War was waged on political, economic, and propaganda fronts and had only limited recourse to weapons. Usually, when we hear war, we hear death and explosions. Cold War was based on political war, which was a surprise to me at first. Due to the fact that, the first time I have heard of the Cold War, to me, it sounded like a war took place at a winter time. Thus, it shocked me to know that it was political war. Though I'm glad it was not a bloody war. I found this website that shows information about the Cold War, what happened and how.

Week 10: World War I

The United States declared war on the German Empire on April 6, 1917, during World War I. The U.S. was an independent power and did not officially join the Allies. It closely cooperated with them militarily but acted alone in diplomacy. The U.S. made its major contributions in terms of supplies, raw material and money, starting in 1917. WWI was one of the most important events that happened to the USA and the world too. After the war, USA has changed sharply. I found this website that give more information about the USA WWI and a video explains what did the USA did in the war and what they did after.

Week 9: The Progressive Era (1890 - 1920)

“The Progressive Era (1890 - 1920) Progressivism is the term applied to a variety of responses to the economic and social problems rapid industrialization introduced to America. Progressivism began as a social movement and grew into a political movement. The early progressives rejected Social Darwinism.” After I read the chapter and took it in class, the progressive Era is one of the events that occurred in the US history. Also, it caught my attention in many angles such as poverty, violence, greed, racism, and class warfare. I found this website that gives details about the progressive era.

Week 8: Urbanization in America

“Urbanization occurs when the population shifts from rural to urban areas. With the advent of innovative agricultural technologies and industrialization, Americans began to migrate to cities in droves during the 1800s. By 1920, over 50% of Americans lived in cities.” I thought Urbanization was a historical event to write about for the US history. Also, when I've read about it, it caught my attention. When people start to move to urban areas; how they dealt with it, what were the negatives and positives of that movement? I website I found gives information about the advantages and disadvantages of urbanization.

Week 7: Civil War US History

In the spring of 1861, decades of simmering tensions between the northern and southern United States over issues including states' rights versus federal authority, westward expansion and slavery exploded into the American Civil War (1861-65). Civil War is one of the most important wars in the history of USA. The event that triggered war came at Fort Sumter in Charleston Bay on April 12, 1861. Claiming this United States fort as their own, the Confederate army on that day opened fire on the federal garrison and forced it to lower the American flag in surrender. Due to the Civil War, Freedom has been represented to the country. The website I found contains quick history about the Civil War in the USA; also, there is a video clip that explains the Civil War too. I was interested to hear about the Civil War because it was one of the reasons the USA has started the idea of freedom.
